Prideland Kennel October 23rd, 2011 Update Hola from sunny Valencia, Spain. Here it is already late into October, and we have so much to share about the many changes that have occurred in the last three months. My husband returned from his overseas deployment, and we made preparations to move ourselves and our kennel to sunny Valencia, Spain for NATO duty there for the next three years. We had a very busy summer in preparation for our move overseas, and arrived here in early October. The dogs are heading over in the next few weeks, as we traveled first without them, so as to allow us time to settle in and find a home here for both ourselves and them for the next few years. We have been looking for that perfect location to suit our needs, and are getting closer to finding a very nice home, after a few weeks of traveling around and getting familiar with the area. I miss the dogs so much and can't wait to fly back to our home in New York in a few weeks to bring them back with me. Because of the transition, we will not have a Cocker litter this fall, but are planning a Springer breeding in the upcoming months with our gal Lucy Jane, pictured on the right, attending to the daily business aspects of running the kennel. She is such a wonderful and intelligent dog, and sometimes a bit of a clown, but always a sweet and loving girl. We are also planning another breeding in the Spring, in late March 2012 with our Cocker Tess, and another in the Fall of 2012 with Lucy's daughter Desi, who will be three in August 2012. Our planning of litters is fluid at the moment, depending on our schedules for work here, and the logistics of traveling back to the states for our daughters college graduation in late May 2012, and also having time to find and research lines of a Cocker stud in Spain. Take some time to remember and honor those who have served this next month as we celebrate Veteran's Day. And as always support our military, pray for and remember those serving, our wounded and the families of those who have fallen. God Bless! Patricia Ryan Penree
Prideland Kennel May 12th, 2011 Update Hello to all of our pup families and friends, and hello Springtime! Warmer and drier weather has finally arrived, and honestly I didn't think it could rain as much as it did here this Spring, talk about muddy dogs, and cold, oh my! Needless to say it has been a busy time the last few months. My husband left for Afghanistan as planned, and it took us a few weeks to get adjusted to a new routine and the additional workload. Now that the weather has warmed up and the grass is growing, I am finding that the mowing and trimming is a full time job in it's self. We are contemplating one litter this fall, from our American Cocker gal, Tess. Desi who is a pup from the August 2009 litter is pictured on the left as a one year old. She will soon be two years old, and she is a very sweet and well behaved girl, we couldn't be more pleased with her. We have begun planning for her first litter in another year with a beautiful black and white boy from the same kennel as her sire is from in Canada. I have been dealing with an old back injury flaring up, so it has been a little slow going as far as grooming and trying to get to shows. But at some point we will be trying to get a few more dogs in the ring, as they always do well and my daughter Madeleine and I have a lot of fun when traveling to the shows. We have just one foster dog here and he is a five year old Black American Cocker Spaniel, Onyx. Onyx was in puppy prison at the local shelter and I received a call from my vet and he asked me to come and adopt him, as he was presented when surrendered as a dog without issues, but apparently he had a seizure disorder which was not declared and this made him not able to be adopted out. Sadly he would have been put to rest. But he is here with us now, and I am thankful I was able to help him out. Since April 14th we have reduced his seizure medication by 75%, and he remains seizure free. I have been diligent to continue to regulate his diet, get him well exercised, and give him supplements. He is just the sweetest boy, so loving and full of joy, really a pleasure to have around. When he reaches his goal weight, he will be made available for adoption from us to a very special home, which he so deserves. If you happen to know of anyone who might be looking for a special needs boy to love, or a Springer or Cocker pup, please keep us in mind, and refer us to anyone who may be interested. Our best customers come from referrals and they are always greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend, and as always support our military, pray for and remember those serving and the families of those who have fallen. God Bless! Patricia Ryan Penree
Prideland Kennel February 20th, 2011 Update While the winter weather is upon us, snow waist deep and blowing winds and cold, we have still kept very busy here at the kennel the last few months! I am sure the dogs absolutely love the cold and the snow, unlike their owner! In the late summer, our newest pup, the daughter of our boy Lou arrived. Lili as we call her, is pictured on the right. She is a liver & white pup we chose to keep from a breeding with Corrado Springers in Syracuse, New York. Lili is already 10 months old, and will be starting her training this spring. We look forward to a breeding of our Lucy Jane in late Fall 2011. Everyone has been very pleased with her first litter from the August 2009 litter. We still have two pups from the litter at home here, and they are nearly two years old, needless to say, we just adore them all. We have also been very busy in November, December, January and February with our Springer fosters from Long Island and New England Rescues. We had an eight year old, black & white brother and sister pair, Spencer and Crumpet arrive in early August. They were with us for several months for care and re-training and they went to forever homes in November in Clinton and Rome, New York. Our two long term fosters, mother and daughter Sophia & Samantha finally went to their forever home together in Vermont on January 3rd. They settled in and are doing well. We received two new foster dogs in late December and provided medical care, training and plenty of love as they adjusted to our routines here. Lady, a nine year old liver & white gal found her forever home, also in Vermont on February 11th, and her former housemate Soco, a six year old black & white male, left just this past Friday, February 18th for his forever home in Kings Ferry, New York. All of the rescue dogs successfully went through many hours of socialization, training, bathing and grooming to reach their full potential before they went to their new homes. I personally was very proud of each and every one of them, and rest assured they have all successfully transition into their new forever home and are continuing to be calm, loving and obedient canine good citizens. They all have made their foster mom very proud! My husband is completing the final preparations for his months away as he deploys to Afghanistan in March. We have plans to keep busy with the kennel, until he returns, and we move to Spain in October 2011.. Please keep us in mind, and refer us to anyone who may be interested in a pup. Our best puppy customers come from referrals and they are always greatly appreciated. Stay warm, blessings! Patricia Ryan Penree
Prideland Kennel November 28th 2010 Update Well I must say, that time has gotten away from us the last few months and we are long overdue for some updating here on the web site. Labor Day has come and gone, we had a beautiful Fall with many very nice days to enjoy outdoors. Our grandson turned two years old in early September, and I have been keeping busy with him, caring for him days as my daughter works. With so much to accomplish and helping with child care for my grandson, there has not been enough hours in the day. We have been very busy with our dogs over the past several months, mainly focusing on rescue, fostering and arranging for forever homes for several wonderful Springers and also with boarding and grooming. We had been undecided as to whether to breed for a litter due this January, but chose to wait until May 2011. The litter will be Lucy Jane's second litter, with pups expected in late July 2011, and ready to go home in late September 2011. We had a very good experience at the Leatherstocking Cluster Dog Show in Syracuse, N.Y. on November 21st. We took Lou, our older boy, and Jackson and Desi. All of the dogs showed very well, especially our 15 month old boy, Jackson, who took second in 12-15 Month Puppy, and his sister Desi who took first in 12 -15 Month Puppy, Winners Bitch, and Best of Opposite Sex. Pictured on the left is our youngest daughter Madeleine, ready to plunder the highly prized goodies of Fort Drum on Halloween with her Pirate Dog Jack(son) Sparrow. Both Madeleine and Jackson had a wonderful time, and it was a awesome socialization experience for Jackson, meeting and greeting so many people, in such bizarre costumes. And while he did super all night, we did get a few head tilts and perplexed looks from a Frankenstein and a creepy looking ghoul. As the new year unfolds we will continue to work towards showing our dogs here at the kennel, and we have plans to enter a few shows this summer. My husband is preparing for his fifth deployment overseas, this last deployment to Afghanistan in March 2011, so we will be busy getting everything buttoned up here before he leaves. As we wind down for the year, I would like to take this time to thank each and everyone one of our wonderful customers, those for boarding, grooming, training and those who purchased food and supplies from us. We appreciate your business and look forward to continuing our service in the coming year. And especially to our puppy parents, from all of our litters over the years, a heartfelt thanks to you for sharing your hearts, homes and lives with our pups. God Bless! Patricia Ryan Penree and Family
Prideland Kennel August 1st, 2010 Update While it has only been a few weeks since our last update, we have quite a bit of news to share with everyone. Our newest kennel member, Prideland's Point of Light, call name Lili, arrived on my birthday, July 23rd. Lili is the daughter of our boy, Lou. John and the children drove to Syracuse to fetch her, while I was busy at home grooming Lou and Desi for the Canadian Nationals, our very first dog show, which we attended on Saturday, July 24th in Kingston, Ontario. We had a great time at the show and learned a lot. We look forward to attending a few other shows over the summer as we begin to earn titles on our dogs. Lucy has been resting up a bit, enjoying the coolness of the cement floor in the garage during the day, and if it is really hot she can be found in the kitchen under the table near the air conditioner. Though she was bred with Bryden's Jacks Are Wild from Bryden Springer's in Canada in mid-June, she did not take. We will be breeding her in May 2011, so if you are interested in a pup, please do contact us, make an appointment to visit and we'll introduce you to three of the pups still here from her first litter. Pictured on the right is Prideland's I Love Lucy, call name Desi, she is one of two girls from Lucy's first litter. Desi competed in the Canadian Nationals and took a First in Senior Puppy Bitch class, we were very proud of her seeing that it was her first time out. Along with grooming and training for show, caring for our summer boarders, we have also been coordinating the intake of several dogs for rescue, as we provide foster care for dogs in transition to their new forever homes. We currently have five foster Springers at the kennel, so please do take the time to go online to the Long Island English Springer Spaniel Rescue, and also take a look at the New England English Springer Spaniel Rescue site to check out dogs available for adoption. Spread the word, there are a lot of very nice dogs awaiting adoption. Have a great August, take some time to relax and enjoy yourself, Labor Day will be here before you know it! Best, Patricia Ryan Penree and Family
Prideland Kennel July 12th, 2010 Update First of all I can hardly believe it has been over two months since we have posted an update, but I guess that indicates just how busy we have been here with family and the kennel and all the activities that come along with the celebrating Mother's Day, Memorial Day Weekend, Father's Day and the end of yet another school year, and not to forget the beginning of good ole summertime and the Fourth of July! We have seen numerous changes in the past few months, the litter sired by our boy, Lou, and whelped in Syracuse, NY at Corrado Springer's on April 18th has grown up and gone on to their forever homes. We will be bringing home our newest pup, Prideland's Point of Light, call name Lili, our pup for stud service from the litter on July 23rd. Our Lucy Jane enjoys her days as queen of the kennel, and we have a planned breeding with Lucy due in late July 2011, we expect a super litter, with reservations already being made, please do contact us if you are considering a future pup. Lou and our young lady, Desi, Lucy's daughter from her August 2009 litter, are preparing for their first show in Canada on Saturday, July 24th. There they will compete in the Limestone Conformation Show and The Canadian English Springer Spaniel Specialty Show in the same day. My greatest feat is to now keep them clean the weeks before the show, around here, dogs and mud seem to go hand in hand, so that will be a chore indeed. We continue to remain busy with summer projects, mowing, bathing and grooming, along with a very busy training and boarding schedule. While there was no lack of cold this winter, it too seems there is no lack of heat this summer, and everyone, canines and humans alike are spending a good amount of time in the pool. We will be sure to post some a photo or two from our first show! Just a quick note on treat safety, as pictured in the photo on the left; the smaller chipped and compressed treats shown in the top photo are really a choking hazard, as well as the raw hides that are a single sheets rolled over many smaller pieces pictured in the middle photo. If you want to give you canine companion a chew, look for rawhide that is thick and one continuous roll, as pictured in the bottom photo of the three, also choose raw hide treats made in the USA for content purity and as always, supervise your pups when chewing. Until later, relax and enjoy the dog days of summer! Patricia Ryan Penree and Family
Prideland Kennel April 25th, 2010 Update Well here we are all ready heading into May and Spring has arrived in full fashion. Grass is green, bulbs are blooming and the newest litter out of our boy, Lou with Mimzie who is owned by Corrado Springers in Syracuse, New York was whelped on April 18th, 2010. Mimzie's first litter, produced five beautiful and very healthy puppies. All liver & white, two little girls and three fellows. We are very excited about the pups and look forward visiting with our female pup from the litter and sharing photos with all of you as they grow. We will be evaluating them on April 28th, and be sure to take some wonderful photo's of the little darlings to share. Please do check back for photo's later this week. Because of the number of reservations, the litter was completely pre-sold. We apologize for this, but do expect to have a litter out of our gal Lucy Jane due in July 2011. So if you are interested in a pup, we will have a litter next year! We have been keeping in touch with all the the families who have pups from the August litter out of Lucy, and our new puppy parents couldn't be more pleased with the pups. Pictured on the right is one handsome young fellow from the August 2009 litter, Riley , who was purchased by the Pezze Family in Slingerlands, New York. Time and time again they, along with all of our other puppy parents have expressed what a joy he and his siblings have been and how they have become such wonderful family members. Calm, obedient and loving, even Riley's groomer adores him, so much so that when the family went out of town a while back, she offered to board Riley because of his good manners and calm friendly disposition, even though she does not regularly board dogs. We have been busy preparing our pups for the upcoming Spring shows, and look forward to learning together as we begin to earn titles on the pups in conformation, rally and maybe even agility. Have a blessed Mother's Day!
Prideland Kennel March 13th, 2010 Update It has been one month since our last update and life has been one event after another the last few weeks. We welcomed our second grandchild and first grand-daughter, Reghan Alexandra Penree, born February 28th, 2010. Warmer weather has just begun to grace us here in Northern New York, and the springtime haircuts have started and the dogs are looking good! Papillon, Jackson and Desi from Lucy & Jack's August 2009 litter turn seven months old March 20th, and have continued to share their joy with us. We have been working steadily on their show grooming and are preparing them for a match and then a few shows in the coming months. Lucy and her Mom, Laney have been hanging out, going for rides and enjoying life by the morning fire. Our boy Lou has received his Therapy Dog Certification in the mail, and was looking oh so handsome in his scarf this afternoon, as pictured on the left, he will start his visits this next week in and around the Watertown area, and with Wounded Warriors on Fort Drum. We continue to prepare Lou for the show ring in this Spring, and hope to begin work on earning conformation and performance titles on him. The breeding between Lou and Mimzie last month appears to have been successful, and we are patiently awaiting the little ones arrival in mid-April! Both Mimzie's owner and I are very excited about the litter as we will be welcoming home our newest kennel member from the litter, and there are already numerous reservations for pups from the litter already. The March weather is upon us, and thankfully thus far the grounds have been drying up nicely. We look forward to some family time as we gather for a St. Patrick's Day dinner of corned beef and cabbage with all the fixings, and then holy celebration of Orthodox Easter in the first part of April! Have a Blessed Springtime, and we will be sure to get photos of the litter posted just as soon as they arrive! Until then, Patricia Ryan Penree and Family
Prideland Kennel February 14th, 2010 Update It has been a very busy several weeks here at the kennel, as we have continued to have a full house with 23 dogs present, including numerous boarders with folks heading off to different parts of the country over Winter Break, and others heading South to take a break from the very cold temperatures we have had the last month. I look forward to the day we have retired and are able to head South or back to Greece every year for a few months! Our three pups Papillon, Jackson and Desi from Lucy & Jack's litter turn six months old February 20th, and after having their first grooming last weekend, they are really shaping up to be super pups. Just as beautiful as they are obedient and loving, it can't express just how pleased we, as well as all of the families who have pups from the litter, are with the little ones! It was a very successful breeding and we also look forward to a wonderful litter between our Lou and Mimzie, as we await the arrival of their litter in mid to late April. The grandmother of the sire of Lucy's pups is also factored in Mimzie's pedigree and Lou is Lucy's uncle, so we have every expectation to see another litter of beautiful and loving pups! We have been working along steadily now with Lou, with weekly washing, hand stripping and blanketing, preparing his coat for the show ring. We have completed and sent off Lou's paperwork, photograph and physical exam form from his Therapy Dog International testing and expect to receive his certification and identification along with his scarf back from them in the near future. In the next few updates I thought I would continue to share with you the recent photo's that I have received from folks who have pups from the August 2009 litter, pictured on the right are two of our black & white boys, Tucker and Winston, owned by Michelle and Geoff Oswald of Cape Vincent, New York. Their Mom wrote to me that it was indeed a very special Valentine's Day this year, with so much puppy love from the boys! Have a wonderful Valentine's Day!
Prideland Kennel January 31st, 2010 Update Well, well....here we are already at the end of January and I must ask, "Where did this month go?" But with that in mind, there is a bit of excitement brewing as we are one month closer to Spring and warmer weather when we can get back outdoors to train. It also reminds me that I have to get busy planning for our upcoming litters this summer and schedule our field bred boy, Cole for his testing, as well as out little black Cocker, Tess. We have been learning more about show grooming as we continue to prepare Lou for the show ring this Summer. We are also looking into and reviewing pedigree's for several outside breeding's with our boy Lou this Spring, we will be sure to get photos of the girls posted under the "Planned Breedings" link on our Springer's page just as soon as possible. The pups continue to grow and flourish, and Desi will attend her first show in Canada in July 2010, along with Lou. Again I will mention our Facebook page for Prideland Kennel, for anyone who is interested in becoming a fan. I have been adding posts on various topics under the "Discussions" tab on the Facebook page as a means to share information. We continue to receive great feedback and photos of the pups from Lucy and Jack's litter in August 2009. The photo on the left is Prideland's Walker Kehoskie, now owned by Brenda & Mike Kehoskie of Auburn, New York. Brenda owns Kehoskie's K9 Care and offers individual & group training and playgroup, and it is apparent that Walker has very much made himself at home with Brenda & Mike and their older Cocker, Moose. Walker is pictured on the left, showing off his stuff as he attempts the cat's tunnel, hopefully, he will soon realize that he will have to give up on the cat's tunnel and use his own tunnel before he becomes so big that he gets stuck! Stay warm, and remember that Spring is just around the corner!
Prideland Kennel January 10th, 2010 Update Since this is the very first update of 2010, we feel it is only fitting to first wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year! Even though the snow has arrived and the temperatures have plummeted, we have been as busy as ever here at the kennel. Several of Lucy's pups from the August litter will be five months old on January 20th, and we plan a trip to Canada this next week to have them evaluated to make a final decision on who we will be keeping as our future show and breeding prospects. We also have posted on the right a photo of two senior Springers, Samantha and Sophia, ages 10 & 12, these girls have been with us since mid-July and they are our foster gals from Long Island English Springer Spaniel Rescue. They are still waiting for a family of their own, and are two very obedient, gentle and loving souls, they are just the sweetest girls you will ever meet! If you or someone you know may be interested in providing a loving home for the girls, please do contact us or the LIESS Rescue. We recently added a Facebook page for Prideland Kennel, for anyone who is interested in becoming a fan. Several of our customers have added photos, written comments and I have been posting different topics related to training and issues under the "Discussions" tab on the page. We look forward to starting to show a few pups in March as they come of age, along with our boy Lou. We appreciate all the positive feedback and the many referrals this past year and hope to continue our work in the years to come as we build our lines and expand our services. Warmly, Patricia Ryan Penree and Family
Prideland Kennel December 15th, 2009 Update As Christmastime draws near and the year to an end, we feel it is only fitting to take this time to send our heartfelt thanks to all of our extended family of customers from this year and past years. Those of you we have come to call friends, who have taken our pups into your homes and loved and cared for them while making them a part of the family! Pictured on the left is Prideland's Elegant Ella, a pup from Lou's May 2009 litter. Ella's family, The Koury's sent this photo as their Christmas card this year, and we decided to share it with everyone, as it is just too adorable to keep to ourselves! We have continued to be very busy with the added work managing the dogs daily activities here at the kennel as the winter cold has come upon us, and limited their time outdoors. We are still waiting for that first big snowfall, but did get a taste of some very blustery weather a week ago. Unfortunately all the snow melted and we are back to frozen (better than thawed) bare ground! Lou successfully completed his Therapy Dog International Test and I am in the process of completing his paperwork and for his scarf and certificate. The children have all headed home from college for a month, and we look forward to spending the next two weeks doing a bit of remodeling and then decorating for our Orthodox Christmas celebration on January 7th, 2010. Again, our thanks to you all, the excellent care and love you have continued to give your pups as the years pass is truly heartwarming and greatly appreciated! Our very best wishes to you and yours, for a wonderful Christmastime from all of us here at Prideland Kennel!
Prideland Kennel November 25th, 2009 UpdateClick Here to See Available Pups! Click Here to See Available Pups! Click Here to See Available Pups! Here we are almost through November, and looking forward to Thanksgiving, and spending time with family and friends. One of our favorite traditions is the prized Thanksgiving Dinner, prepared from old family recipes with roast turkey, homemade egg custard stuffing, candied yams, whipped potatoes with rich gravy, a variety of steamed vegetables, fruit salad made with chilled and sweetened heavy cream, homemade rolls, pumpkin pie, apple pie, chocolate & banana cream pie, the list goes on. Every year we strive to cook more so there are plenty of left overs, but as the family grows and friends join us, it seems we never have much left! The dogs always enjoy the holidays, all of the wonderful smells and tasty treats, banished to the rug by the fireplace, they patiently await even the tiniest morsel being offered. Quite skillfully they ever so slowly make their way across the living room rug with an occasionally feigned "Springer Sprawl" hoping to go unnoticed as they inch closer to the kitchen doorway several times throughout the day, only to be ordered back to their place, and then starting the long journey over again an hour later! Our newest English Springer Spaniel is arriving December 3rd, Prideland's Rosslyn Chapel of Rainbowbridge, call name Coco hails from Whisborne Swedish lines along with the same wonderful old Southern lines in our boy Lou. Picture on the left, we look forward to the drive to Syracuse to pick her up next week. While the weather has been quite nice, it seems the mud and burdock abounds, and we have been doing more than our usual share of grooming the past few weeks. We will have a very full kennel over Thanksgiving, with boarders here for the holiday. While lastly, we are busy preparing Lou for his Therapy Dog Test on December 5th and look forward to starting visits with him. Until next time we wish you a very blessed Thanksgiving!
Prideland Kennel November 5th, 2009 Update A few weeks ago I was complaining about the cold weather, and now we are enjoying several warm, breezy days outdoors in a row! The May litter sired by our boy Lou, has really come along nicely. We decided to sell our pick pup to Skip and Penny Wells in Oswego, New York. Seamus as he was named, was the only fellow in the litter, and he is just a beautiful black tri-colored young lad, with plenty of ticking and the sweetest personality. Our pups from Lucy's August litter with the exception of one male pup, Walker, are all sold. We have decided to hold three pups, two little boys, Papillon and Jackson, and a little girl Desi. We couldn't be more pleased with the pups! Everything about them is just super, from their sweet personalities to their intelligence, to their beautiful color and markings. Several of them are pictured on the left, Jackson, Pappy and Walker who is currently available! Our heartfelt thanks to our newest puppy owners, for placing their trust in us, and for their providing wonderful homes for our pups! The Pezze Family in Slingerlands, NY who purchased Riley, and the Mitchell & Yesse Family in Troy, NY who purchased Teddy, the Carozza Family in Ganesvoort, NY who purchased Tucker, the Oswald's in Cape Vincent, NY who purchased our other Tucker and Winston, and the Stokes Family on Fort Drum, NY who purchased our girl, Maggie. Looking forward to enjoying a few days off later this week and finishing up our outdoor projects! Our very best to all, and God Bless our service members this Veteran's Day!
Prideland Kennel October 15th, 2009 Update All of the dogs here at the kennel seem to be enjoying the brisk weather, the cold North wind was howling and it was just freezing when we were taking a walk today. Time to get out the winter gear! All of the babies are doing wonderfully, they had their first shots on October 8th, their second worming, and we are now preparing to send them off to their forever homes in the next two weeks. They are having a ball outdoors, running and playing, carrying around sticks and chasing leaves, with Sadie our Shepherd ever vigilant watching over them. They have all been sleeping in crates for the entire night and going potty outdoors in the morning with the rest of the pack. What a sight it is, guaranteed to warm the heart of any Springer or dog lover for that matter. The ten 8 week old babies, the four 5 month old pups from the May litter, Lucy, Laney and Lou, along with Sophia and Samantha our rescue gals. Nineteen Spaniels ranging in age from 8 weeks to 12 years, trotting about as the morning sun warms the earth, frost in the air. Not to forget Tess, our little black Cocker and our two Shepherds and two Yorkshires, making it a walk with twenty four pups! With joy in their hearts as they spring through the tall grass, and tails a wagging as they eye the geese flying overhead. I feel blessed to be able to share mornings like this with the pack. We look forward to sharing more photos and testimonials on the web site soon, after a busy next few weeks of getting the pups off, things should settle down some and we'll have time to work on the web site more. Until then, enjoy what's left of the Fall season and have a Happy Halloween!
Prideland Kennel October 3rd, 2009 Update We are heading into the first week of October and have been quite busy with the kennel. Several of our pups from the May litter have been spayed and are heading home, Ella left this afternoon with her owners, Jeanne & Walter Koury. While saying good-bye to the pups is always bittersweet, we have been so very thankful for the wonderful folks that we have come to know, and feel blessed that they will be providing most excellent homes for our babies! Gemma and Jenny will be heading home in a few weeks also, Pepper will be spending a day at the vet to be spayed and she and Lacey are available. Lucy's litter has just turned six weeks old, and are the cutest bunch of pups we have ever loved! Everyone one of them has such a sweet, yet different personality. They are really a joy to be around, always eager, exploring and really doing well with their potty habits. As soon as they have their vaccines this week they will be able to go out and explore the great outdoors, and we look forward to them experiencing the wild and wonderful yard for the first time, and taking some cute photos to share! Hopefully the weather will cooperate, and the rain will pass and things will warm up a bit! Best regards, Patricia Ryan Penree and Family
Prideland Kennel September 23rd, 2009 Update Here it is already late September, and the children

are all back to school and the babies have grown up so much in the last few weeks! They have begun to earn themselves names as they develop their little personalities, and go about their days in a particular fashion. Our first chosen name was given to our little girl at birth, Destiny dubbed Desi, and even though we know Lucille Ball's (our Lucy's namesake) husband was a man, we couldn't resist calling our gal Desi. We have one little liver and white boy, who learned to walk earlier than the rest and really enjoyed his new found talent so much that he earned the name Walker, as he paddled his way round and round the whelping box! Another little fellow, who more than a week ago figured out how to scale the side of the whelping box to follow Mom when she would leave to take a break, and took to sleeping on her bed with her, has taken to climbing out of the whelping box to do his business also and then climbing back in! Because he is such an expert escape artist we've dubbed him Papillon. We plan to name one fellow Dega, who was Papillon's sidekick in the book Papillon, which was released in 1973 and eventually made into a movie starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. One pair of pups, who we sometime find exploring the whelping room together, we refer to as our Delta Boys or Delta Ena (one), because he has a white triangle on his neck, and then there is his buddy Delta Theo (two), because he too has a white triangular marking also, only his marking is on his rear. Then we have Long John, so named for his one very long black front sock, and Maggie Mae who was named by the Stokes Family, and is also her great grandmother's name sake. We have our very stately boy, well named as Winston by the Oswald Family. And one last fellow who hasn't yet earned a name, but since he was pup number eight we've dubbed him Octavius. We received an email from the Lucy's pups sire's owner, Mr. David Swartwood, who wrote to share with us that Jack's dam, the pups grand-dam Bryden's Born To Bee Wild, or Geri won the Canadian Nationals this past weekend in Montreal! Congratulations to both of them, what a great honor! We are rolling into October and it looks like Fall is upon us, even though we have been having some very strange warm and muggy weather these past few days. Looking forward to going to the Auburn area this weekend to watch the pups sire, Jack compete in the Wine Country Dog Show. We look forward to enjoying yet another lovely Fall weekend outdoors as well, as Old Man Winter will be here before we know it!
Prideland Kennel September 5th, 2009 Update After a long few weeks of being very busy with our newest litter, our May litter and getting children off to college and ready for back to school, finally the traditional end of summer and much anticipated Labor Day weekend has arrived! With a few small projects to finish up and lots of yard work, some fall planting, and several boarders here, there won't be too much time for relaxing! But still we look forward to the four days off, and the beautiful days outdoors. Lucy Jane and the 10 babies are doing wonderfully, they have just started to open their eyes and are already motoring around the whelping box. Pictured on the left is our oh so loving little liver and white girl, Prideland's Maggie Mae, quietly sitting on the pig rail of the whelping box observing me as I wash the floor and prepare to clean the whelping box. We have been waiting for our daughter to visit from college this weekend, so we can update the puppy photos on the website, check back for them later this week! Prideland Kennel August 21st, 2009 UpdateLucy Jane and Jack's Litter Has Arrived! Lucy Jane's and Jack's Litter Has Arrived!Prideland Kennel proudly announces the arrival of our newest litter! Prideland's Lucy Jane, who was bred to Champion Bryden's Jacks Are Wild owned by David Swartwood in Gananoque, Canada , whelped ten very healthy, well marked, sweet little ones on Thursday, August 20th, 2009 between 7:30 pm and 12 midnight. Lucy whelped two little girls, one liver and one black, and eight little boys, of which three are black and five are liver. Her labor and delivery was quite effortless and Lucy has already proven herself to be a calm and loving, attentive mother. Friday morning, Laney came into the whelping room to check on Lucy, and meet her grandchildren. Lucy cheerfully greeted her Mom, and her tail wagging while Laney thoroughly sniffed and checked the litter. Meanwhile Laney's brother and Lucy's Uncle Lou, sat silently at the door, unsure of what all the fuss was over waiting to go outside, and wondering why he couldn't use the usual door out to the pool area for a swim! Congratulations Lucy and Jack!
Prideland Kennel August 1st, 2009 UpdateEven though it is the 1st day of August, everyone in Northern New York is finally hailing summer's arrival. Cold, wet and anything but summer-like for the last month, the nice hot sunny weather has finally returned! Just one pup remains available from Lou and Jada's litter, and we are currently accepting reservations for our upcoming litter between Lucy Jane and Jack. This will be a litter of exceptional babies, liver & white and black & white pups. We currently have four reservations for Lucy Jane's litter, so if you are at all interested please don't wait to contact us. The pups are due in mid-to-late August and will be ready to go home right around the end of October. Several of the pups from our current litter will be staying on for a few months for training, and go home as started pups. On the home front we are gearing up for the older children to head off to college, Elisabeth will be starting at Cazenovia College this fall, Will heads back to Clarkson as a junior, and Emily will be finishing up at Jefferson Community College. We will be sure to update the site just as soon as Lucy's babies arrive. Until then relax and enjoy the dog days of summer!

Prideland Kennel July 15th, 2009 UpdateIt seems as the summer is just flying “bye” as we have been quite busy with puppies, training and boarders! The pups have had their first shots, and are already coming due for their second. Jada, their mom, has gone home with her owner and one female puppy, Jett. The remaining six pups are staying on with us and have transitioned seamlessly. Running and playing in the yard with our other Springers, Lou, Laney and Lucy, and our Shepherd, Sadie. The pups have a period of critical training and socialization now from the time their mom leaves to the day they go to their new homes. They continue to work on improving their potty habits and go outdoors regularly now, and they have been introduced to sleeping in a kennel for a nap and at night. They are practicing sitting quietly while waiting for breakfast, lunch and dinner and learning some basic commands and being handled for grooming and nail trimming weekly. We have also started with numerous car rides each week and long trips to our weekend home in Hartwick, NY. In all the pups really are a great bunch, and have done extremely well these last few weeks. I have spent the last two years reading and experimenting with different ways to handle the little ones, and the progress is really evident with these pups. In keeping a proper balanced mindset from birth, socialization with the pack and positive reinforcement, they are coming along very well for being such a young age. Wishing everyone a belated happy July 4th!

We took a very long drive today, and had the pups examined by Dr. Francis A. Fassett, D.V.M at Heritage Veterinary Clinic in Cooperstown, New York. They all received their NYS Certification of Fitness for Purchase Health Certificates. All of the pups were healthy and very well behaved, and we were very pleased to be able to take the pups for their exam in Cooperstown with Dr. Fassett. We have known him for nearly 35 years, and greatly enjoy our visits when in the area. A special "Thank You" to Dr. Fassett and Staff for a wonderful experience!

Prideland Kennel June 25th, 2009 UpdateI just wanted to take a minute to update everyone on what's been going on these last few weeks. Jada and Lou's litter is coming along very nicely. They are a very well behaved lot, never too rowdy, always eager and willing and very obedient for such youngsters! They enjoy mealtimes and have been doing an outstanding job on their potty routine, going all the way across the room or back deck to hit the mark on the potty pads nearly every time. Lucy Jane returned home on June 25th after spending ten days in Canada for breeding. We look forward to mid-August and welcoming our second litter this year out of Prideland's Lucy Jane and Bryden's Jacks Are Wild. My most sincere thanks to David Swartwood at Bryden English Springer Spaniels for his exceptional care and handling of Lucy during her stay for breeding. We recognize all of the hard work David has done with his Springer lines over the past 30 years and greatly appreciate the opportunity to improve our lines here at Prideland with this breeding. Enjoy the summer sun!

They are already making their way across the whelping room to potty! We look forward to them getting outdoors in the next few weeks, what fun awaits them! We have just one black tri-colored female available, if interested please call or email. We will be working out the final details of Prideland's Lucy Jane's breeding in the next few weeks. We will keep you updated as we make our final plans. Both of the studs we are currently considering will greatly add to our bloodline here at Prideland Kennel, and we should have a very nice litter! Have a great week!

Prideland Kennel June 1st, 2009 UpdateOur newest litter out of Cayuga Lou's Pride and Shady Hollows Jada is doing wonderfully. They are a calm and loving bunch, and we are very much enjoying them. We took photos of them and loaded them onto the website. Well needless to say when it rains it pours! We sadly had to take a week long trip back to the Cooperstown area as my beloved stepfather and the children's grandfather passed away on Memorial Day. He will be missed greatly in the coming months as Elisabeth graduates from high school in a few weeks and the summer visits home begin. As we all know life marches on, and thankfully we have a great many blessings to consider, and many fond memories of the twenty plus years we shared with him. God Bless!
